Advent Joy in worship

Celebrating Advent in Joy and Worship

Joy to the world, the Lord is come! Let earth receive our King! Today, as we receive our glorious King, it is our desire to joyfully ascribe to Jesus the glory, strength, majesty and authority that belongs to Him and Him alone. For by the blood of Jesus, God has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the Kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

We bow in His presence, full of joy, in worship to express to Him our agreement that He is God and we are not.

The wise men saw the star and declared their desire to worship, “we saw his star in the east and have come to worship him…. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped Him.” You see, we were created to worship this king. The word ‘worship’ means to “bow down”. Just like the wise men, we are to bow with our hearts engaged to draw near to the heart of God.

They bought gifts as a sacrifice as a way of expressing the value they attributed to the babe in the manger. It could not have been to bring God increase because who or what can increase God? No, it was to say, these things we lay before you are important and valuable to us and we give them to You to express that You are more important. We love and value You so much more! It is our joy to express our love with these things we value.

True worship is the quickening (bringing to life) of the heart with genuine feelings and emotions in response to the glory of God. These emotions may include repentance, sorrow, desire, reverent fear, awe, wonder, gratitude, praise but will always lead to the joy and hope we have in Christ! We worship our Lord and Savior as we bow our hearts before Him to lift our voices in song, in prayer, in The Word, in the lifting of holy hands, in the kneeling of our knees, and in the sacrifice of praise and gifts. Our hearts overflow with expressions of great joy in knowing Jesus!

Joy to the world, thank you Father, our King has come and yes, we receive our King! Not just on Sunday, but in all we do, we worship your Precious Son and our Lord and Savior!

The joy that You give is far greater than the fleeing, temporary, psuedo joy of the world. We bow because we love the Lord with all our heart, all our soul, all our mind and all our strength. Our worship runs deeper than getting things from You. We are blessed and thankful for every good and perfect gift BUT You are most important. We have not come to you for Your things but for Yourself. “One thing I ask of the Lord, this is what I seek; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord [in His presence] all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord, and seek Him in His temple.” Psalm 27:4

We declare, fully engaged (body, soul, and spirit) “You are our treasure, not Your things.”

Psalm 29:1-2,
“Ascribe to the LORD, O mighty ones, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. Ascribe to the LORD the glory due His Name; worship the LORD in the splendor of His holiness.”

Let’s declare with joy in our hearts:
“Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise.”  Revelation 5:12
