Every line of this Psalm helps me to understand why I love it so much and why I so often find myself placing my name right in it. What an Awesome God!
1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;
4 indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord watches over you—
the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
6 the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.
7 The Lord will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;
8 the Lord will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.
I can remember when my husband worked night shift. He would come home, stir around a bit, and then go to bed. Once I got home from work and the children from school, I was always asking one of them to “go, wake your dad up.”
No one has to ever wake our God up! In these verses, He takes away any concern of “if the Lord knows, if He sees, if He is watching, if he missed something taking a quick nap.” There are times in the struggles of life that we feel like asking, “Lord, did you see that?”
We have all said at one time or the other, “I think I will take a quick nap.” Blessed be the Name the Lord, He doesn’t take naps nor does He need to!
Verse 3 gives us the promise that He is watching over and He will not let our foot slip. It is certainly one of those “Shout Now” verses! It reads like this for me:
‘The Lord will not let my foot slip – The Lord is watching over Pat and will not slumber; indeed, He who watches over Pat will neither slumber nor sleep.’
Yeah, Psalm 121:3-4 is a “Shout Now” verse!
It takes the fear out, the concern, the wondering of what if…the strongholds are cast down, the yokes broken, the shackles loosed, His peace restored, His joy realized, my hope in Him rekindled…for this is God speaking and He is faithful to His Word. These verses builds my faith!
“No weapon that is formed against you will prosper;
and every tongue that accuses you in judgment you will condemn.
This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD,
And their vindication is from Me,” declares the LORD.” – Isaiah 54:17
“When the enemy shall come in like a flood,
the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.” Isaiah 59:9
“I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5
“Greater is He Who is in me than He who is in the world.” 1 John 4:4
“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.” Psalm 23:5
“Surely Your goodness and mercy follows me all the days of my life.” Psalm 23:6
“I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in His Word I put my hope.” Psalm 130:15
Shout to the Lord with the voice of triumph!
