I am currently attending a Bible Study on the Book of Revelation and having such a blessed time soaking in the Word of God. This time with God and His Word causes me to want to be faithful in sharing the Gospel in my time here on earth.
Some years ago, God preached a sermon titled “If Jonah Could Talk” from Jonah 1:1-5. It speaks of lessons than can be learned from Jonah and his assignment to preach in Nineveh that will help the believer with our faithfulness to God’s assignments.
As I study the Book of Revelation, the “If Jonah Could Talk” sermon keeps coming to my heart and mind. I will share from it over the next several posts. I pray that God will open our hearts to receive His truth.
“If Jonah Could Talk”
It seems this world is spinning its way to Matthew 24:12 which tells us that as this world wraps up “because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold.” It seems as though those times are here. We live in a society that is well advanced with technology that allows us to know what is happening throughout the world quicker than we can flip our fingers. We are constantly being given evidence of wickedness increasing as people live with no regard for God. Love appears not only to be cold but frozen.
Our God, in His grace and mercy, warns us of these times and tells us in Matthew 24:43, “therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.” In other words, watch your love walk, love for God and love for others. ‘The darkness and wickedness gives evidence that I’ll be back in a twinkling of an eye’.
It should be of no surprise, but just in case somebody doesn’t know, it’s no joke; the Lord IS coming back to earth again! The Word of God assures us that one day Jesus is going to rapture His people right up and out of this messed up world. Hallelujah!
1 Thessalonians 4:16 says “for the Lord, himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.”
I am sure ‘nough looking forward to “forever with the Lord.”
We praise God and thank Him as we wait expectantly for the day of His return. I was asked about this on my job last week and the concern was the “right now,” the interim. What is the believer to do as we live in the midst of a depraved world? What are we to do while we wait on the Lord’s return?
The answer is found in 1 Corinthians 10:31, “So whether, therefore, ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever you do, do it all to the glory of God.” Matthew 5:16 says the same thing a different way, “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
“If Jonah could talk”…we will continue to talk about it on tomorrow.
In the meantime ponder on this: We are commanded to make God famous and not ourselves. His glory and light signing through us , not our own. How you doing with this? How would your family and workplace response?
