The Sovereign God

Psalm 115.3

Psalm 115:3 (ESV)
“Our God is in the heavens;

He does all that He pleases.”

“When confusion’s my companion
And despair holds me for ransom”

My soul just immediately relates to the first words of the song, “Shoulders.” It says, “when confusion’s my companion.” Every time this song comes over the radio, the volume goes up.

I am sure it is because life has brought enough “stuff” my way that I know the reality of  confusion and how it causes even a believer to do battle in the mind. If not dealt with The Word and the Holy Spirit…and prayer, it can cause despair to hold even the child of God ransom.

God has been faithful over the years to teach me that His Word is the answer to the issues of life. I can give personal testimony to the need to defeat the enemy as described in 2 Corinthians 10:5, “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” The need of intimate relationship that submits to the will of God. “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven…and let it begin in me.

Psalm 115:3 is one of my life verses as it helps in times of confusion and despair to remember Who is in control. The verse is well worth pondering…Selah (pause and ponder) all throughout the day. “Our [My] God is in the heavens; He does all that He pleases.”

This means that there is not a thing going on in my life, the lives of my family, my community, my church, the world, the earth…that He is not aware. God has ultimate control over all this world. “The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof; the world and those who dwell therein (Psalm 24:1).”

The Lord does and allows as He pleases. He will use it all for His glory and my blessing and benefit. “As for God, His way is perfect: The LORD’s word is flawless; He shields all who take refuge in Him. (Psalm 18:30).”

Yes, there is going to be warfare. The battle rages but Jesus won the war at the cross. No one else can declare the following words with the power to prove it out but God.

Psalm 33:10-11 (NIV)
The Lord foils the plans of the nations;

    he thwarts the purposes of the peoples.
But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever,
    the purposes of his heart through all generations.

So today, I will keep singing to my God, rejoicing in Him for He is worthy of all of my love, praise, and worship. He is my very present help and I submit to His perfect plan and purpose with joy in my heart. I glory in His Name and am delighted to be His child. The old saints called it being happy is Jesus alone! Blessed be His Name!

“When confusion’s my companion

And despair holds me for ransom”I will feel no fear
I know that You are near When I’m caught deep in the valley
With chaos for my company
I’ll find my comfort here
‘Cause I know that You are near [Chorus:]
My help comes from You
You’re right here, pulling me through
You carry my weakness, my sickness, my brokenness all on Your shoulders
Your shoulders
My help comes from You
You are my rest, my rescue
I don’t have to see to believe that You’re lifting me up on Your shoulders
Your shoulders You mend what once was shattered
And You turn my tears to laughter
Your forgiveness is my fortress
Oh Your mercy is relentless [Chorus]  My help is from You
Don’t have to see it to believe it
My help is from you
Don’t have to see it, ‘cause I know, ‘cause I know it’s true.
