The enemy would have us to believe that this world is spinning out of control and in fact, he is running things. The truth is satan is not only a liar but the Father of lies (John 8:44). Before we swallow his lie, we should go to the Word of the Living, True, and SOVEREIGN God and stand firm on what He has spoken.
Believing, receiving, surrendering to God’s sovereignty in the ALL of life will help us to live the eternal, abundant life Jesus promises to those who are His (John 10:10). We are slow to admit it but at times this can be a major in our lives because deep down we want to rule our own lives and desire that the Lord just bless our plans.
So today, just a few additional verses to help us to behold the beauty, surrender, experience the joy of accepting the Sovereignty of God in every aspect of life. I am so thankful that our God is patient and long-suffering, for sometimes it can take me a minute to pray the prayer I mentioned on yesterday, “Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, and let it begin in me.” God is faithful to work in my heart through His Spirit and Word until I am able to join the Psalmist in declaring,
“Not to us [me] O Lord, not to us but to Your Name be the glory, because of Your love and faithfulness (Psalm 115:1).”
Isaiah 46:9-10 (NIV)
“Remember the former things, those of long ago;
I am God, and there is no other;
I am God, and there is none like me.
I make known the end from the beginning,
from ancient times, what is still to come.
I say, ‘My purpose will stand,
and I will do all that I please.’”
I am he;
I am the first and I am the last.
13 My own hand laid the foundations of the earth,
and my right hand spread out the heavens;
when I summon them,
they all stand up together.
Job 42:2 (ESV)
“I know that you can do all things,
and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted.
“You are my witnesses,” declares the Lord,
“and my servant whom I have chosen,
so that you may know and believe me
and understand that I am he.
Before me no god was formed,
nor will there be one after me.
11 I, even I, am the Lord,
and apart from me there is no savior.
12 I have revealed and saved and proclaimed—
I, and not some foreign god among you.
You are my witnesses,” declares the Lord, “that I am God.
13 Yes, and from ancient days I am he.
No one can deliver out of my hand.
When I act, who can reverse it?”
“At the end of the days I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven, and my reason returned to me, and I blessed the Most High, and praised and honored him who lives forever, for his dominion is an everlasting dominion,
and his kingdom endures from generation to generation;
all the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing,
and he does according to his will among the host of heaven
and among the inhabitants of the earth;
and none can stay his hand
or say to him, “What have you done?”
Acts 17:24-28 (NIV)
“The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. 25 And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else. 26 From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. 27 God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us. 28 ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’
Yet it was the Lord’s will to crush him [Jesus] and cause him to suffer,
and though the Lord makes his life an offering for sin,
he will see his offspring and prolong his days,
and the will of the Lord will prosper in his hand.
SELAH (pause and ponder) the Sovereign God
who so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son,
that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16).
“Not to us O Lord, not to us but to Your Name be the glory,
because of Your love and faithfulness.”
