Proverbs 4 (NIV)
20 My son, pay attention to what I say;
turn your ear to my words.
21 Do not let them out of your sight,
keep them within your heart;
22 for they are life to those who find them
and health to one’s whole body.
23 Above all else, guard your heart,
for everything you do flows from it.
24 Keep your mouth free of perversity;
keep corrupt talk far from your lips.
25 Let your eyes look straight ahead;
fix your gaze directly before you.
26 Give careful thought to the paths for your feet
and be steadfast in all your ways.
27 Do not turn to the right or the left;
keep your foot from evil.
God has been faithful this week to speak to our hearts, reminding us that He is trustworthy and faithful. He has assured us that our safe place is in trusting Him. It is really the walk of faith, believing [being sure and certain] that God is Who He says He is and that He does everything that He says [His every promise is true], and all His ways are perfect!
This means that we as believers in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior we are to live out life according to our Father’s Word. We walk by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7).
Sometimes it is necessary for a believer to preach to himself and in those times, I use the Amplified translation of Hebrews 11:1, “11 Now faith is the assurance (title deed, confirmation) of things hoped for (divinely guaranteed), and the evidence of things not seen [the conviction of their reality—faith comprehends as fact what cannot be experienced by the physical senses].” God has the title deed to every promise, plan, and purpose. This is already settled in heaven. My responsibility is to stay in faith NMW (no matter what). Praying the Scriptures is what gives me the assurance that things “won’t be alright” but “are alright.” God is with me and His plan is not to harm me, but to prosper me in every regard (spiritual and otherwise) and give me hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11).
Today’s Proverbs passage helps me to examine myself according to the Word of God and by His Spirit. I can never say that I don’t know what to pray because praying through the Word will always cause me to know I am praying according to His will.
It’s been a tough little go but God is always faithful to remind me that “without faith it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6)” and with grace and tender mercy usher me back to having my eyes fixed…walking by faith and not by sight.”
“Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you.”
Truly the Word of God is life, healing and health to all who will believe and receive.
