What if?

What if

Exodus 4: 1-9
“Moses answered, “What if they do not believe me or listen to me and say, ‘The Lord did not appear to you’?”
Then the Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?”
“A staff,” he replied.
The Lord said, “Throw it on the ground.”
Moses threw it on the ground and it became a snake, and he ran from it.

Then the Lord said to him, “Reach out your hand and take it by the tail.” So Moses reached out and took hold of the snake and it turned back into a staff in his hand.
“This,” said the Lord, “is so that they may believe that the Lord, the God of their fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has appeared to you.”
Then the Lord said, “Put your hand inside your cloak.” So Moses put his hand into his cloak, and when he took it out, the skin was leprous—it had become as white as snow.
“Now put it back into your cloak,” he said. So Moses put his hand back into his cloak, and when he took it out, it was restored, like the rest of his flesh.
Then the Lord said, “If they do not believe you or pay attention to the first sign, they may believe the second.
But if they do not believe these two signs or listen to you, take some water from the Nile and pour it on the dry ground. The water you take from the river will become blood on the ground.”

We read the above Scriptures and see the God who meets us where we are…the God who calls ordinary people and does extraordinary things…not only uses ordinary people but ordinary things.

He is calling an ordinary, humbled Moses and this is how God works:
ordinary staff + power of God = extraordinary results, SNAKE
leprosy + power of God = extraordinary results, GONE
water from Nile + power of God = extraordinary results, BLOOD

God”s purpose: “that they [the Israelites] may believe that the Lord, the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.”

Moses acted on his own 40 years ago and God is revealing to Moses that He is the difference maker.

Moses alone = failure.
Moses + All Powerful, All Knowing, and Ever Present God = extraordinary results.
Moses, ‘I Am your sufficiency. I will give you the power you need to accomplish My purposes.
Those I call, I equip and they are never alone.’

“What is that in your hand?”
I can use it, the ordinary becomes
extraordinary when you allow My power to have control.

As believers, we have the power of the Holy Spirit and the power of the Holy Word of God. The question is do we have the humility and faith to allow God to fulfill His purposes through us?

Isaiah 61:3
The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,

because the Lord has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,
and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
    instead of ashes,
the oil of joy
    instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
    a planting of the Lord
for the display of his splendor.

What’s in your hand? Just like God will do with Moses, isn’t time to trust God and live out His purpose for our lives? To give Him our failures to use for His glory?
WHAT IF? God says: humble yourself, follow me and I will use ordinary you for the extraordinary so
the world will know that I Am God and besides me there is no other.
