But because You say so…3

He saw at the water’s edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets. He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat.  Luke 5

As the people are pressing upon Jesus, He sees 2 empty boats on the water’s edge which had been left there by two fishermen who were washing their nets.

Jesus gets in Peter’s boat and asks him to move out a little from the shore. He wants this done so He can position Himself to be more effective in His teaching. He will actually use the boat as a pulpit and  the water to carry His voice.

Unlike we do today, He actually sits down and teaches the people…from the boat.

Can you imagine? He is not in a synagogue…I wonder if He dared to not use the King James Version… forgive me, the KJV hasn’t been written yet. There Jesus is in the highways and byways of life teaching people about Jesus. Going to the people, teaching from a boat, speaking in language they can relate to?  I wonder what God thought about that? Oops! There I go again, Jesus is God and He only does what the Father tells Him. Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does (John 5:19).”

Perhaps, we can learn some things from Jesus as to how to engage this present generation?

Just saying…

  1. Communicating is so important and we seem to have splintered off in to different styles of worship. What I pray for is the messenger and message be biblically sound. Some worship appears more like entertainment which gets people in the door but what are they learning and how long do they want to be entertained?

    1. Yes, this is true. We change methods but never the message…and we meet people where they are…churches closing every month because we want the unsaved to come to us. When Jesus ascended He told us to “go.” And should they come, we want babes who are mature and need no disciplining…just saying Jesus meet people where they were, communicated in a way they could relate to, and didcipled them. Thanks for adding to our conversation. Blessings today!
