2 He saw at the water’s edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets. 3 He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat. Luke 5
As the people are pressing upon Jesus, He sees 2 empty boats on the water’s edge which had been left there by two fishermen who were washing their nets.
Jesus gets in Peter’s boat and asks him to move out a little from the shore. He wants this done so He can position Himself to be more effective in His teaching. He will actually use the boat as a pulpit and the water to carry His voice.
Unlike we do today, He actually sits down and teaches the people…from the boat.
Can you imagine? He is not in a synagogue…I wonder if He dared to not use the King James Version… forgive me, the KJV hasn’t been written yet. There Jesus is in the highways and byways of life teaching people about Jesus. Going to the people, teaching from a boat, speaking in language they can relate to? I wonder what God thought about that? Oops! There I go again, Jesus is God and He only does what the Father tells Him. Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does (John 5:19).”
Perhaps, we can learn some things from Jesus as to how to engage this present generation?
