Show diligence

Hebrews 6.11-12

And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises. Hebrews 6:11-12

I just love the little tidbits, reminders like the one above that we find in the Book of Hebrews. God reminding us not to put our salvation, our relationship with Him on automatic but we are to work out (not for) our salvation.

“Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed – not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence – continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his purpose.” Philippians 2:13-14

It reminds me of the saying, “Salvation is the miracle of the moment, sanctification is the work of a lifetime.” The Lord desires that we be diligent in seeking Him, knowing Him in greater ways, that we love Him with our all in all-so much that obedience is the overflow of that love. The Lord warns us to not be sluggish but rather to strain forward and press on to to the full assurance of hope until the end.”

There is encouragement to “imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.” The Holy Bible is full of people of faith and I pray that you have some saints of God walking in faith and perseverance with you who do the same. Certainly, Hebrews 11 puts many of the people on faith on display. I will post Hebrews 11 as my Sunday post. But this I know, diligence is not possible without the Holy Spirit and the Holy Word nor is it possible without prayer. I thank God for these gracious gifts…and this warning. 🙂
