11 Now if perfection had been attainable through the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people received the law), what further need would there have been for another priest to arise after the order of Melchizedek, rather than one named after the order of Aaron? 12 For when there is a change in the priesthood, there is necessarily a change in the law as well. 13 For the one of whom these things are spoken belonged to another tribe, from which no one has ever served at the altar. 14 For it is evident that our Lord was descended from Judah, and in connection with that tribe Moses said nothing about priests.
15 This becomes even more evident when another priest arises in the likeness of Melchizedek, 16 who has become a priest, not on the basis of a legal requirement concerning bodily descent, but by the power of an indestructible life. 17 For it is witnessed of him, “You are a priest forever, after the order of Melchizedek.”
18 For on the one hand, a former commandment is set aside because of its weakness and uselessness 19 (for the law made nothing perfect); but on the other hand, a better hope is introduced, through which we draw near to God.
The writer of Hebrews speaks of the imperfection of the Levitical priesthood for it could not save people from sin. Melcizedek’s priesthood was superior to the Levitical priesthood and Jesus’ priesthood is greater than the Levitical because His priesthood is after the order of Melchizedek. The writer looked back to Psalm 110:4 where the Lord promised:
4 The Lord has sworn
and will not change his mind,
“You are a priest forever
after the order of Melchizedek.”
I believe it’s the nuggets like the following that strengthens me in this journey: “This becomes even more evident when another priest arises in the likeness of Melchizedek, who has become a priest, not on the basis of a legal requirement concerning bodily descent, but by the power of an indestructible life.”
Surely it is worthy of being said again, “One who has become a priest not on the basis of a regulation as to his ancestry but on the basis of the power of an indestructible life”…on the basis of the power of an indestructible life. In this one verse alone we come to know why Jesus is the Superior One for He is the One who has the power of an indestructible life.
No one else qualifies! No one else is God! No one else is the second person of the Trinity! No one else is the Unblemished Lamb of God! He was granted His priesthood not by family name but by His deity for He is God!
Some would ask how do we know that His life is indestructible? It is because we have the record. satan and man gave it all they had and instead of destruction, life came forth! Hallelujah!
But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him. Acts 2:24
The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father.” John 10:17-18
…regarding his Son, who as to his earthly life was a descendant of David, and who through the Spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God in power by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 1:3-4
God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of it. Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear. Acts 2:32-33
Jesus the High Priest with indestructible life who gives indestructible life- eternal, full and free. Bow down and worship, “Shout now…Hallelujah!”
“When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.”
Thank you, Jesus!!!
