18 For on the one hand, a former commandment is set aside because of its weakness and uselessness 19 (for the law made nothing perfect); but on the other hand, a better hope is introduced, through which we draw near to God.
20 And it was not without an oath. For those who formerly became priests were made such without an oath, 21 but this one was made a priest with an oath by the one who said to him: “The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind, ‘You are a priest forever.’”
22 This makes Jesus the guarantor of a better covenant.
Blessings today…another nugget that strengthens me in the journey is right in these verses. Jesus is the Superior One who is Great and greatly to be praised!
The LORD set aside the the old standard and brought in a new one for the law made nothing perfect. The whole sacrificial, ceremonial system is no longer in effect. The old standard revealed and covered sin but it was not perfect. Only Jesus could make purification for man’s sin. The old has gone and the new has come. The LORD has introduced a better hope that allows us to draw near to God.
My, my, my…I…me…what man thinks impossible is possible through Christ. I can come into the presence of the Holy, Righteous, Pure and Perfect God…all by myself. No man has to go before me or come with me. Even as I type, I can hear the Lord calling, “Draw near to me [God] and I [He] will draw near to you (James 4:8a). Don’t need to come through anyone but Jesus, the Superior High Priest who endured it all…shed His blood, gave His life, tore the curtain and ushered in a better hope. A hope that does not disappoint (Romans 5:5). “…come boldly to the throne of grace, that you may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need (Hebrews 4:16).”
The grace and mercy of God who is love…the One who “so” loves that He gave His special and unique Son as the Sacrificial Lamb to take away the sin of the world, to pay our sin debt and intercede on our behalf. Oh, what a wonderful Savior!
“Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that He opened for us through the curtain, that is, through His flesh, and since we have a Great Priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. Hebrews 10:19-23
Oh, what a blessed privilege to come beyond the veil and commune with my Lord and Savior! But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship. Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” Galatians 4:4-6
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. 1 Peter 1:3-5
As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.” For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Romans 10:11-13
