Hope for today:

HopeFor this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins. 2 Peter 1:5-9

the need for understanding…

Hebrews 5.14

11 We have much to say about this, but it is hard to make it clear to you because you no longer try to understand. 12 In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! 13 Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. 14 But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil. Hebrews 5:11-14

Blessings today and thanks so much for your prayers, thoughts, and encouragement. God has been faithful and I am healed and renewed. I pray all is well with you.

Hebrews 5:11, We have much to say about this, but it is hard to make it clear to you because you no longer try to understand” presents a question for each of us: “How is your spiritual development coming along? How is your understanding? Are you seeking God, meditating upon His Word day and night?”

Verse 11 speaks of a very sad condition for any true believer for God tells us in Proverbs 4:7,  “The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.” This passage encourages us to never tire of seeking understanding and wisdom from the Lord. The ESV translates Hebrews 5:11 to say, About this we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.

Dull of hearing…you know, when we no longer want to read our Bibles, when we do so out of duty rather than fellowship and thirst, when we have no idea what we just read…we just know we fulfilled the law and did it, when we blame the preacher and say we got nothing, and the Sunday School teacher is always just off…you know, when we no longer hide the Word in our hearts, when the Word is no longer sweet to our taste-sweeter than the honeycomb, when we would rather spend our time listening to the world’s rhetoric than the Word.

Another reason this condition is sad is because the writer of Hebrews, the Holy Spirit, has truth to impart but the dullness of hearing makes it hard for the Word to penetrate the hearer’s heart and thereby faith is not increased and transformation slowed. It is a side effect of embracing dullness. The condition get worst because in reality, there is no stand still in Kingdom living. We either grow or backslide depending on our response to the Word. We should always remember that faith comes by hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17).

Dullness of hearing is a symptom and when we know this is the place we are spiritually, it is time to seek help by falling on knees before the Lord, confessing our sin of dullness, repent and asking the Lord to cleanse our hearts, open His Word to our hearts, and our hearts to His Words.

We need to have attitude of the Thessalonians,

“And we also thank God constantly for this, that when you received the Word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is, the Word of God, which is at work in you believers.” 1 Thessalonians 2:13

“Brethren, do not be children in understanding; however, in malice be babes, but in understanding be mature.” 1 Corinthians 14:20

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9

“Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths.
Guide me in your truth and teach me,
for You are God my Savior,

and my hope is in you all day long.” Psalm 25:4-5

“Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” Jeremiah 33:3

Hope for today: test the spirits

HopeDear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.

You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. 1 John 4:1-4

Hope for today: encouraged and united

HopeMy goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments. For though I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit and delight to see how disciplined you are and how firm your faith in Christ is. Colossians 2:2-5

Hope for today: wisdom and understanding

HopeBy wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established;
by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.
A wise man is full of strength, and a man of knowledge enhances his might, for by wise guidance you can wage your war, and in abundance of counselors there is victory.
Proverbs 24:3-6

Hope for today: wait for the Lord

HopeWait for and confidently expect the Lord;
Be strong and let your heart take courage;
Yes, wait for and confidently expect the Lord.

Hope for today: wisdom from above

HopeFor where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. 17 But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. 18 And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace. James 3:16-18

Hope for today: no weapon formed

Hope1“Poor Jerusalem, storm-tossed, and not comforted, I will set your stones in black mortar,
and lay your foundations in sapphires.
12 I will make your fortifications out of rubies, your gates out of sparkling stones,
and all your walls out of precious stones.
13 Then all your children will be taught by the Lord, their prosperity will be great, 14 and you will be established
on a foundation of righteousness.
You will be far from oppression,
you will certainly not be afraid;
you will be far from terror,
it will certainly not come near you.
15 If anyone attacks you,
it is not from Me;
whoever attacks you
will fall before you.
16 Look, I have created the craftsman
who blows on the charcoal fire
and produces a weapon suitable for its task;
and I have created the destroyer to cause havoc.
17 No weapon formed against you will succeed,
and you will refute any accusation
raised against you in court.

We must pay close attention

hebrews 2.1

Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. For since the message declared by angels proved to be reliable, and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution, how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard, while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will. Hebrews 2:1-4

Most of us reading this blog know the guide for reading Scripture concerning the word, “therefore.”  Whenever you see the word “therefore,” go back and see what it is there for. I cannot recall a time that this guide has failed to bring me clarification and knowledge…and so it with this second chapter of Hebrews which begins with the word “therefore.” Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it (Hebrews 2:1).

So let’s quickly go back to Hebrews 1 which we read on yesterday and see what the therefore is there for. Through the opening chapter of Hebrews the Lord reveals truth about Jesus and I pray that one truth that penetrated every heart is that Jesus is the Son of God. Jesus is superior to angels, superior to any man, and superior to creation for He is indeed the Creator.

Surely, as we read John 1:1-4, 14 came to our hearts.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

I must share that ‘bullet point’ is my middle name. When studying or teaching, bullet points really help me with my own clarity. I pray that as we read and chewed on yesterday that we were able to hear God as He revealed the following things about Jesus, the Son of God (bullet points):

  • God appointed Jesus the heir of all things (vs. 2)
  • Jesus created the world  (vs. 2)
  • Jesus is the radiance of the glory of God (vs. 3)
  • Jesus is the exact imprint of the Father’s nature (vs. 3)
  • Jesus upholds the universe by the word of His power (vs. 3)
  • Jesus made purification for sins (vs. 3)
  • Jesus sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high (vs. 3)
  • Jesus is much superior to angels (vs. 4)
  • Jesus inherited a name that is more excellent than angels (vs. 4)
  • Jesus is worshiped by angels (vs. 6)
  • Jesus is God (vs. 8)
  • Jesus’ throne will last forever (vs. 8)
  • Jesus laid the foundation of the earth in the beginning, and the heavens are the work of His hands (vs. 10)
  • Jesus remains and will remain the same (vs. 12)
  • Jesus’ years will have no end (vs. 12)

This one chapter of the Word of God that reveals Jesus as the Son of God and the Superior One is a “Shout now – HALLELUJAH!” Rejoice! Rejoice!

We move on after receiving this Truth to hear God begin Chapter 2 with “therefore”…because you have received this revelation of Truth, we [you] must pay much closer attention to what we [you] have heard, lest we [you] drift away from it.

My, my, my! What a Word in due season for the people of God. Therefore pay much closer attention to what you have heard FROM ME.  You say but I am paying attention, God says pay much closer attention (2:1).  Listen carefully. Observe My Word. Focus. Meditate on MY Word day and night. Treasure my Word. Be washed by My Word. Be transformed by My Word. Display My Word.

I have spoken by My Son… not social media, not the world system, not CNN, not FOX, not the President, not the pundits, not your IRA, not sister girl, not your guy, not the world’s wisdom, not even your own thoughts..BUT PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO WHAT I HAVE SPOKEN. but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son (1.2).” “And some fell into good soil and grew and yielded a hundredfold.” As He said these things, He called out, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear (Luke 8:8).”

Then He gives the reason why and the reason is actually a warning, lest we drift away from it (vs. 1).” Some already have drifted away…the cure is the same as the prevention, pay much closer attention to what you have heard from the Son of God!

Father, You are Holy, Righteous, Pure and Perfect! Thank you for opening our eyes to see Jesus as the Son of God. Please help us to hold true to You and Your Word, to pay close attention to the Words Jesus spoke, help us not to drift away but be found faithful, treasuring Your Word more than silver or gold. In Jesus Name, Amen!

they are pondered by all who delight in them.

Psalm 111.2
Glorious and majestic are His deeds,

    and His righteousness endures forever.
He has caused His wonders to be remembered;
    the Lord is gracious and compassionate.
He provides food for those who fear Him;
    He remembers his covenant forever.

He has shown His people the power of His works,
    giving them the lands of other nations.
Psalm 111.4The works of His hands are faithful and just;
    all His precepts are trustworthy.
They are established for ever and ever,
    enacted in faithfulness and uprightness.
Psalm 111.3He provided redemption for His people;
    He ordained His covenant forever—
    holy and awesome is His name.

10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
    all who follow His precepts have good understanding.
    To Him belongs eternal praise.
